Jorga Mesfin’s Ethio-jazz album “The Kindest One” out now

Jorga Mesfin, widely acclaimed as one of Ethiopia’s top contemporary musicians, has released his highly anticipated album, “The Kindest One,” on May 24th on Muzikawi YouTube Channel and digital streaming platforms. A protege of Mulatu Astatke, Mesfin’s album delves deep into Ethio-jazz, blending spiritual experimentation with elements from Ethiopian music and jazz.

Mesfin’s musical journey began at just 12 when he started taking piano lessons. The musical journey he started at such a young age has led to collaborations with renowned artists like Tsegaye Gebremedhin, Wayna Wondwossen, kirk Whalum, Takana Miyamoto, Aster Aweke, Mahmoud Ahmed, Dr.Mulatu Astake, Mahmoud Ahmed and Vijay Iyer. He’s also the founder of Ethio-jazz group Wudasse and composed music for the acclaimed film “Teza”. His work on the film earned him the Best Music Award at the 22nd Carthage Film Festival and Best Composition at the 5th Dubai International Film Festival.

‘The Kindest One’ is now available on Muzikawi YouTube channel and digital streaming platforms. The vinyl will also be available for purchase at Addis Jazz Festival, Muzikawi’s flagship event, highlighting the label’s commitment to Ethiopian music culture, and also get the opportunity to watch Jorga in action on the album release day at African Jazz Village.
